Small Intestine
The small intestine is a long, tube-shaped organ in the abdomen (area between the chest and the hips) where most digestion (the breaking down of food) and absorbtion of nutrients takes place. When the process of digestion is complete, the small intestine empties the residue into the large intestine. The small intestine is about 20 feet long and includes the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.
