Pharynx
Pronounced - FAR-ingks
Pharynx is a hollow tube about 5 inches long that starts behind the nose and ends at the top of the trachea (windpipe) and esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach, also called gullet). The pharynx serves as a passage for food from the mouth to the esophagus and for air from the nose and mouth to the larynx.
