Prilosec Side Effects
Omeprazole - chemical name - Pronunciation - o-MEP-ra-zole
Prilosec - brand name
Although side effects from Prilosec are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Cough
- Upset Stomach
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Increased gas or bloating
- Itching
If these side effects continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Allergic Reaction
An allergic reaction to Prilosec is unlikely, but if you experience the following symptom, stop taking Prilosec and call your doctor immediately:
- Difficulty Breathing
- Closing of the throat
- Swelling of the lips, tongue, or face
- Hives
If You Take Too Much of Prilosec
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include:
- Confusion
- Unusual sweating
- Drowsiness
- Dryness of mouth
- Blurred vision
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Flushing
- General feeling of discomfort or illness
Additional Information About Prilosec
If you are taking Prilosec for gastric ulcers or reflux disease, your symptoms should improve within 4 to 8 weeks. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, contact your doctor. DO NOT SHARE Prilosec with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE Prilosec for other health conditions. KEEP Prilosec and other medications out of the reach of children and pets.
