Gastric Ulcer

Pronounced – GAH-strik UL-sur
A peptic ulcer in the stomach is called a gastric ulcer. A gastric ulcer is an open sore in the lining of the stomach. A gastric ulcer is also called a stomach ulcer.
The most common symptom of a gastric ulcer is a burning pain in the stomach.
A gastric ulcer happens when the acids that helps digest your food damages the walls of your stomach.
The most common cause of gastric ulcers is infection with a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
Treatment for Gastric Uclers
If not treated, gastric ulcers will get worse. Treatment may include:
- Medication to block stomach acids.
- Antibiotics to kill ulcer-causing bacteria.
- Surgery may help for ulcers that don’t heal.
Not smoking and not drinking alcohol can help.
