Before You Use Prilosec OTC
Ask your doctor before you use Prilosec OTC if you have:
- Had hearburn over 3 months. This may be a sign of a more serious condition.
- Heartburn with lightheadedness, sweating or dizziness.
- Chest pain or shoulder pain with shortness of breath; sweating; pain spreading to arms, neck or shoulders; or lightheadedness.
- Frequent chest pain.
- Frequent wheezing, particularly with heartburn.
- Unexplained weight loss.
- Nausea or vomiting.
- Stomach pain.
Ask A Doctor or Pharmacist Before You Use Prilosec OTC If You Are Taking:
- Warfarin – blood thinning medicine.
- Prescription antifungal or anti-yeast medicines.
- Diazepam – anxiety medicine.
- Digoxin – heart medicine.
Stop Use of Prilosec OTC And Ask a Doctor If:
- Your heartburn continues or worsens.
- You need to take Prilosec OTC for more than 14 days.
- You need to take more than 1 course of Prilosec OTC treatment every 4 months.
If Pregnant or Breast Feeding
Ask your doctor before use of Prilosec OTC.
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), pronounced – GAH-stroh-eh-SAW-fuh-JEE-ul REE-fluks duh-zeez, is the flow of the stomach’s contents back up into the esophagus. Happens when the muscle between the esophagus and the stomach (the lower esophageal sphincter) is weak or relaxes when it shouldn’t. May cause esophagitis. Also called esophageal reflux or reflux esophagitis.
